Edward is a State Alchemist, within the Amestrain Military. He hails from the small country town of Resembool born to Van Hohenheim and Trisha Elric. His father left when he was just five years old, and his mother died due to an epidemic that same year. He is a child of two. Older Brother to Alphonse Elric. They are separated by a year in age. The two are nearly inseparable and have been practicing the science of Alchemy together since Edward was five years old. They are mostly self-taught, as they vowed to bring their mother back from the grave at her passing.After spending six years, on the endeavour the two boys performed alchemy’s greatest taboo, Human Transmutation in an attempt to resurrect their late mother. The transmutation rebounded, taking Edward’s left leg and Alphonse’s entire body. In a panic not to lose his only living family, Edward performed a second transmutation, giving up his right arm in exchange for his brother’s soul and he bound it to a suit of armor, essentially saving his younger brother’s life. Edward was 11 years old.The two then embarked on a journey to regain their lost bodies, Edward joining the military in exchange for both power and access to otherwise classified alchemic texts. They are vagabonds, traveling the country looking for a cure to their problems. The two boys burned down their childhood home, as a vow to never turn back on their quest because with no home to return to they can’t give up on their quest. They lie about their current situation, as if knowledge of their breaking of the taboo were to be made public, they would be arrested and Edward court-martialed. Select members of the cast know the truth of their situation, but people they meet in their travels do not automatically know of their issues, as Edward wears clothing in a way that would hide his automail prosthetics and gloves to cover his hands. There is rumor that Edward Elric has an automail arm, but that is all that flutters about the country as hearsay.

Edward's personality can be a bit abrasive to those he's not close to or don't know him well. He is not afraid to raise his voice or yell and he tends to use cuss words like commas so he doesn't have the cleanest mouth.
But beyond that Edward is a caring honest young man who loves his friends and family deeply and will do just about anything to help or protect them. Just about anything because Edward has an extremely strict moral code and he will not break it for anything - even at the cost of his own life.
Skills & Abilities
Edward is a State Alchemist. As a State Alchemist, he is given a code name and a pocket watch as a symbol of his status. His code name is Fullmetal, widely known throughout the country as the Fullmetal Alchemist and nothing else. His pocket watch was given to him along with his code name and it grants him privileges most civilians don’t possess. Along with getting him access to the State Library in Central City, it gives him access to otherwise restricted information. It has also been seen to get him free boarding to trains when he does not possess a ticket, and allowing him to get out of trouble when cornered by the police or other military personnel.
Edward possesses the ability to perform Alchemy without circles. This is an ability gained when “one has seen the truth”. By clapping his hands together, he can alter the composition of anything he touches as long as he obeys the laws of Equivalent Exchange and Conservation of Mass.
More often than not when engaging in a fight, Edward extends the top plate of his automail arm into a blade. This does not compromise the integrity of his arm as he is just extending the metal of a single piece. Edward’s automail is solid steel for most of the series, later upgraded to have a carbon base.Edward will lead with his right side in a fight, engaging often in hand to hand combat. Edward is formally trained in hand to hand combat by his alchemy teacher, Izumi Curtis. He has been trained in martial arts since he was roughly nine years old. There is mention by multiple members of the cast that Edward is extremely fast in combat. He is small in frame but still a powerhouse. Please do not underestimate him due to his age. He is a master of close combat, practicing for roughly seven years. He generally will lead with his lower body in a fight, trading kicks out for punches as to use his long legs to make up for his lack of reach due to his stature.Edward’s right arm and left leg are made of solid steel machines. They hit harder than the average human is capable of. Due to the nature of his false limbs, Edward leads with them in a fight. He is more likely to clock his opponent with his right hand than his left, as he tries to shield his human parts from harm.Edward is also seen transmuting creating a number of other weapons throughout the series such as a spear, a short blade, swords and a bat. Most things Edward creates are reflective of his macabre taste or have some image of his face on it in a cartoonish way.
Edward’s automail does not break easily. They have survived multiple large scale attacks. Edward’s arm and leg have taken attacks from a lion based chimera having been subjected to its claws - which his leg broke off and his arm being subjected to the creature’s bite force. To which a Lion's bite force measures 650 pounds per square inch (psi). To which Edward’s arm didn’t even buckle at all and he was able to lift the beast one armed before he kicked it in the jaw with his left leg and knocked the beast out. It has also been seen to block attacks from a katana and other blades throughout the series. Edward uses his right arm to block incoming attacks often and his arm is rarely seen to take damage from his doing so.
Edward’s automail has also been seen to both block and take gunfire. Edward has been shot in the foot before, and the bullet was merely lodged in between the metal but no other damage was caused by the attack. The few times that Edward’s arm has broken down, it was hit with an explosive force of a great magnitude that shattered the device from the inside out.The other time in question was in his fight against Greed, who could turn his skin into an impenetrable shield. With a near unbreakable shield made of carbon as his defense and weapon, Edward challenged Greed and ended up striking Greed with such force that it broke parts of his arm off, such as outer plating or fingers but it did not cause the machine to cease function.On the topic of Edward’s automail, he has been known in the narrative to change the elemental composition of his arm to avoid it being destroyed. He has changed it to a differing metal to prevent his opposite from causing said explosion that would destroy it from the inside out. He has also changed it in a way that with his carbon base, upgraded arm, he has used the carbon's structure to make it stronger and essentially make it indestructible. He can only alter the structure of his automail so much however, without running the risk of altering too much and causing it to malfunction or cease functioning all together.
Edward’s combat alchemy is generally earth based. He has been seen to raise walls to defend himself in times of crisis, and use things like stone steps to raise himself up and over his opponent in a fight. He’s also used stone spikes as a way of attack. Even going so far as to explode the spikes and send the fragments towards his opponent before. Edward’s alchemy, much like his physical form, is faster than most who practice the art. Due to his circle free abilities, Edward can transmute on the fly, only needing to clap his hands before setting off an attack. If that clap is in the middle of a flip or a jump that means he can transmute as soon as he hits the ground. Edward has been known to do this often, in order to move quickly during the fight and keep his opponent on their toes.He has also been known to transmute canons and other explosives. He is highly studied in the field of pyrotechnics and has masterful control over them. *see video games for a prime example of this
Edward is extremely intelligent and highly studied. Please do not think that just because he is a teenager he is uneducated. Edward is a near self taught alchemist, a science that most adults have trouble understanding. He has been practicing alchemy since he was five years old and is advanced enough to understand human body composition from toddler age. He has been called a prodigy by many members of the cast on more than one occasion. He can deduce situations quickly and with little information.(Example: He figured out how to use Greed’s shield to his advantage on the fly with only the knowledge that Greed’s body was built in the same way as a human’s and while taking a full body beat down.)He spends a large section of the narrative reading or studying something. He is an alchemist and therefore by nature that makes him a scientist. He obtained his state license at the age of twelve years old, a feat never before accomplished in the history of Amestris. His intelligence is on the level of an adult; he's proven to be more so than many of the adult cast.

On the Promised Day, Edward engaged into combat with the homunculus Pride. Unlike canon, Kimblee did not interfere when Pride attempted to possess Edward’s body. Unlike Ling’s situation with Greed, Edward’s soul is trapped within himself in essentially an invisible box, so that Selim can keep him where he needs him but prevent Edward from regaining control of himself. Selim seeks to take proper control over his new host, but fears that killing him outright but has negative consequences on himself.Hohenheim was killed by father in the final fight, Selim taking the time to force Edward to watch as his father was murdered. Selim attempted to use Edward’s body in an attempt to kill Alphonse but Alphonse was the first to realize that Edward was not himself. In a furious rage and overcome with grief, Alphonse killed Father, but Alphonse was lost in the scuffle.Regaining his body through a deal with Truth, Alphonse returns ready to save his brother from the sin that possesses him. The Amestrian Military and Xingese Forces are currently trying to figure out what to do in order to help rescue Edward from this fate.

Born Feb 3rd 1891, the timeline occurred as usual with Trisha passing the same year Hohenheim leaves, and the boys committing the Taboo when Edward 11. However when Edward went to the military it was 1903. He’s accepted into the State Alchemist program, but Alphonse is taken captive and broken down so that only the collar his blood seal is on remains. Edward’s first military act is being forced to kill to show his usefulness to the senior staff. He’s told if he cannot kill then he is of no use and he and his brother are better off dead.Alphonse’s life on the line, Edward kills his first man at 12 years old. From there he’s put under Bradley’s direct watch and sculpted into an alchemist that will perform their every wish. The two are separated and he’s promised to be given a chance to see his brother if he behaves. Backtalk is met with a hand across the face - leaving Edward with the choice of getting struck or stop barking all together.Edward was 17 years old when Order 3066 was issued in 1908, sending in all State Alchemists to serve on the front lines of the Ishvalan War of Extermination. He’s been unable to see his brother the entire time he’s served in the war but he was promised that should he bring Amestris to victory he’ll be granted a special reward.
